Step out of the ordinary and look to the future! Garette and Aleaha Cruzan did just that. Garret came to PMP with an idea of somthing bold and new, A Liberty Diesel in a JEEP Cherokee. With its lightweight characteristics, abundance of aftermarket parts and easily modified suspension components it would make for an excelent conversion vehicle. The engine and transmission was sourced from a 2005 JEEP Liberty CRD, the stock Cherokee 231 transfer case was retained with the exception of a slip yoke eliminator kit. We also retained the front axle with its 3:73 gear ratio, Rubicon Express upper and lower control arms were installed to help stiffen the front suspension, a Rubicon Trac bar and heavy duty bracket was installed along with 3' lift springs and ACOS 1.5' adjustable coil spacers. In the rear we decided to go with a Ford 8.8 rear axle with disk brakes, 3' leaf springs and 1.5' shackles.
To make everything fit in the Cherokee I fabricated custom engine mounts and a tubular cross member. Slight clearancing was done to the firewall do to the engines rather tall hieght. The 2.8L CRD remained intercooled with use of a custom aluminum intercooler and custom intercooler tubes. An aluminum radiator was modified to work with the intercooler setup.
The last big obstacle was the wiring harness which is a feet in itself, Garret being a heavy equipment diesel mechanic skilled in wring decided to take this on himself. The wring turned out excelent and had PMP's seal of aproval.
